Become a Volunteer

Our volunteer support hubs

Feed the Birds befriending scheme relies on volunteers to provide quality one to one visits to people experiencing social isolation or who are feeling lonely. We provide training and support for our volunteers and regular contact with the scheme coordinator.

Volunteers must be over 18, confident and willing to visit someone in their own home. The role suits those who like one to one interaction with people, who enjoy the company of older people and also have an interest in wildlife and garden birds.
Our volunteers are a wide age range, both men and women. Our clients are usually elderly or unwell and often live alone. Some live with a supporting spouse or partner.

The volunteer role is hugely rewarding and once trained and matched with a client, the role involves a one hour visit to your client once a week. Volunteers are encouraged to attend their local Volunteer Hub to meet other Feed the Bird befrienders for peer mentoring and support as well as the enjoyment of sharing your experience.

Take a look at our Volunteer Role Description here to find out more about this role, and we also ask all volunteers when they sign up to abide by the Code of Conduct which is attached here also.
